Ukrainian Navy detects changes in Russian tactics at sea: Details
Russia has changed its tactics in the Black and Azov Seas, with the arrival of a new navy commander. Instead of surface ships, the occupiers are now relying on submarines, the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk reported.
"They don’t have a lot of choices. We are seeing certain changes with the arrival of the new commander, who was introduced by the now-former head of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Shoigu. They have been searching for this tactic for some time," he said.
The spokesperson noted that Russian tactics in the Black and Azov Seas have been reduced to the presence of only submarines, which are harder to detect and destroy.
"This also included an increased use of aviation components, shelling from the territory of Crimea, and the use of the Iskander operational-tactical missile system. They are looking for ways to counteract," Pletenchuk stated.
He added that in the Azov-Black Sea region, Russian ships have only one location left—the port of Novorossiysk. Ships from this base rarely leave and only for short-term actions.
Russia’s atempts to occupy the sea
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia not only launched a land offensive but also effectively blocked the Black and Azov Seas. The occupiers bombard Ukraine from the sea, using Kalibr cruise missiles.
Ukraine managed to unblock navigation in the Black Sea. This was preceded by numerous Defense Forces operations to destroy Russian ships and liberate Snake Island.
In April, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin appointed a new Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy and the commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
