The pier front of one of Russia's main naval bases in Kamchatka sustained damage after a powerful earthquake, said Ukrainian Navy Spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk.

According to Pletenchuk, the damage affected the infrastructure, particularly the pier zone used for servicing nuclear submarines.

However, he stressed that the situation is not critical for the Russian fleet.

"This is purely a technical issue. First, a submarine doesn't necessarily have to dock at its home base. It's not critical, in fact," the Navy Spokesman explained.

Although the damage does not prevent the fleet from carrying out combat missions, the technical failure itself exposes the vulnerability of Russia's infrastructure.

Pletenchuk noted that servicing submarines, including loading missiles, is certainly more convenient at a stationary base.

"But in any case, I don’t think this will significantly affect their operational tasks. Still, the fact that they faced such an issue is confirmed," he added.

Earthquake in Kamchatka

As a reminder, The Telegraph reported that Russia's Pacific Fleet base in Kamchatka, which hosts most of the country's nuclear submarines, was damaged by a tsunami in the Pacific Ocean triggered by a strong earthquake.

The incident involves the Rybachiy base located in Krasheninnikov Bay in the southern part of the peninsula.
