Russian forces are trying to gain a foothold in every settlement along the administrative border between Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions, at the cost of heavy personnel losses, said Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the operational-strategic group of troops Khortytsia.

According to him, the most intense fighting over the past three weeks has taken place in the Pokrovsk, Lyman, and Novopavlivka directions.

"There is a real escalation in the Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka directions. This is part of the summer campaign and pressure tactics, where the Russians have concentrated most of their recent efforts. Especially the Pokrovsk direction, especially their attempt to advance between Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka," Trehubov said.

He noted that as of now, Russian forces are spending a large number of personnel, primarily infantry, in an attempt to capture as much territory as possible in the Pokrovsk direction, east of Pokrovsk and south of Kosynivka. Their goal is to establish a foothold in any populated area they can, and they are spending significant manpower to do so.

In the Novopavlivka direction, according to the spokesperson, Russia appears to be trying to entrench itself in settlements near the administrative border between Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Trehubov explained that Russia’s goal is to demonstrate at least some presence in the Dnipropetrovsk region, to give credibility to the claims and narratives it has been promoting for nearly a month.

"Not just to fabricate something, shoot a staged video, raise a flag, and tag a fake location. They want to be able to bring Russian journalists there and show them a great triumph. That’s where a large share of their manpower is going," he added.

Russian forces want to enter the Dnipropetrovsk region

Russia has repeatedly claimed to be advancing deeper into the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Earlier, the head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, stated that the Russian forces want to push 10 kilometers into the Dnipropetrovsk region.

According to him, the enemy aims to create a so-called buffer zone in the territory of the region.

At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Russian army has not stopped attempting to enter the Dnipropetrovsk region. Fighting has approached its administrative border.
