After the full-scale Russian invasion, hundreds of kilometers of fortifications were built around Kyiv and several rings of defense were created. Today, this defense continues to be strengthened, says Oleksandr Pavliuk, Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

After the full-scale Russian invasion, Pavliuk headed the Kyiv Regional Military Administration for several months and commanded the Kyiv Defense Forces for a year.

"During the year in this position, we did a huge amount of work. This is nearly 1,000 kilometers of fortifications, three rings of Kyiv defense. We have strengthened the Chornobyl direction. We have done everything to ensure that there are no options for a surprise attack by the enemy," he emphasized.

According to the Land Forces Commander, today the defense of the capital continues to be built up and strengthened.

"We are already building long-term concrete fortifications. Because having such a neighbor means you need to be constantly ready for war. And it depends on Kyiv whether Ukraine will exist or not," Pavliuk explained.

Kyiv's defense

Today, March 31, Ukraine marks the second anniversary of the liberation of Kyiv region from Russian occupation. In 2022, residents of Vorzel, Bucha, Borodyanka, Irpin, Hostomel, and a number of other settlements in the Kyiv region were under occupation for almost a month.

The Kyiv City Military Administration has recently made a number of decisions due to the threat of enemy subversive reconnaissance groups entering the capital and Russia's threats to intensify missile attacks.
