Special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (HUR) carried out a series of offensive actions on the Zaporizhzhia direction. Fighting continues in the area of Stepnohirsk, HUR reports.

Offensive operation on the Zaporizhzhia direction

According to intelligence, the special unit Artan, together with other units of the Department of Active Actions of the Main Intelligence Directorate and the Defense Forces of Ukraine, carried out a complex operation.

As a result Ukrainian military:

  • Regained control over important positions;
  • Improved tactical situation on a section of the front;
  • Destroyed the forward assault groups of the enemy.

What losses enemy suffered

Within the operation, Ukrainian fighters:

  • Struck concentrations of manpower and Russian equipment;
  • Eliminated dozens of Russian servicemen;
  • Established fire control over the key logistical routes of the enemy.

According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, strikes on logistics and communication hubs complicated Russian assaults in this direction.

Statement of the unit commander

Commander of the special unit Artan Viktor Torkotyuk, with callsign Titan, noted that the operation is conducted in close cooperation with other defense forces.

"These actions made it possible to create a stable bridgehead for further clearing of the settlement and final expulsion of the enemy," he said.

According to the serviceman, one of the main goals remains preventing the breakthrough of the enemy to the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia.

Main Intelligence Directorate emphasized that offensive actions near Stepnohirsk continue. Assault groups operate with the support of artillery, heavy strike drones, and other means of fire destruction.

Offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the south

In mid-February, Russian so-called war correspondents spread information about an alleged counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the border of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. At the same time Defense Forces of South stated that the real situation on this section of the front does not correspond to such claims.

On 20 February, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported the deoccupation of approximately 300 square kilometers of territory in the south of the country.

Later, it became known about the active actions of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Oleksandrivsk direction aimed at restraining the advance of Russian forces.

And on 23 February, Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that during offensive operations in south Ukrainian military liberated eight settlements and about 400 square kilometers of territory.
