Ukrainian defenders who were members of a Mi-24 attack helicopter crew have been killed on the front line in Ukraine, according to the 12th Separate Army Aviation Brigade named after General-Khorunzhyi Viktor Pavlenko.

"Today, a dark cloud has fallen over our aviation family. A Mi-24 helicopter crew was killed while carrying out a combat mission," the brigade said in its statement.

The brigade added that this is an irreparable loss for aviation, for Ukraine, and for the families of the Ukrainian servicemen who were waiting for them at home.

The brigade did not specify the circumstances under which the soldiers were killed.

Mi-24

The Mi-24 is a Soviet-made attack helicopter developed by the Mil Design Bureau in the 1960s and commissioned in 1972. It is equipped with two turboshaft engines, a five-blade main rotor, and a three-blade tail rotor. Its design allows it to perform both fire support missions and transport tasks, carrying up to eight troops or cargo.

A distinctive feature of the Mi-24 is its combination of combat capabilities and transport functions. The helicopter can carry a wide range of weapons, from machine guns and cannons to unguided and guided missiles.

Throughout its service history, the Mi-24 has undergone numerous modifications, including upgraded versions with improved engines, navigation systems, and various weapon configurations.

On December 8, it became known that Su-27 navigator Yevhen Ivanov was killed while carrying out a combat mission in the eastern direction. Ukraine's Air Force said the circumstances of the tragedy are still under investigation.
