Ukrainian intelligence has disabled another Russian ship, this time the Baltic Fleet minesweeper Alexander Obukhov, according to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.

According to intelligence data, the ship was based in Baltiysk and was supposed to go on combat duty. However, it sustained significant damage – water entered the engine through a hole in the gas duct.

"The Russian minesweeper is now undergoing major repairs, which may become a serious problem, as the damaged M-503 engine is a rare component. Repairing this key system on the ship is technically complex and costly," the Intelligence explained.

They also noted that this minesweeper had undergone repairs in Saint Petersburg in July. It's worth mentioning that this is not the first Russian minesweeper disabled. In April 2024, during the Ukrainian military intelligence operation Rybalko, the missile boat Serpukhov was also disabled.

What is known about the minesweeper Alexander Obukhov

Alexander Obukhov is a Russian Project 12700 Alexandrit-class base minesweeper. It was commissioned in December 2016 and belongs to the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy.

This vessel is known for its monolithic fiberglass hull, making it less detectable to mines and increasing its durability. The ship is 61 meters long and has a displacement of approximately 890 tons. Its primary mission is mine detection and disposal in the water area. To perform this, the Alexander Obukhov is equipped with modern sonar systems and unmanned underwater vehicles.

This ship was the first in its series, with further development and construction continuing under the Russian Navy's modernization program.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian forces have destroyed 26 Russian ships and one enemy submarine.
