Ukrainian intelligence reveals details of mission in northern Kharkiv region
The reconnaissance men told the details of the operation to liberate a forest area near Lyptsi. It took place from May to October 2024, according to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.
Thus, driving Russian troops out of their positions by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine's Kraken, Artan, International Legion, and Freedom of Russia Legion, together with the National Guard of Ukraine and Armed Forces of Ukraine, forced the Russians to abandon the idea of breaking through to Kharkiv and shelling the city with cannon artillery.
“The active phase of the operation was carried out using the so-called salami tactic” - the advanced units of Artan and Kraken captured the first positions of the Russians and consolidated them,” the DIU said.
After that, fighters of the International Legion and Freedom of Russia Legion brought their brothers from the Khartiia Brigade to these positions, and the DIU's striking fists moved forward again, with assaults and clearing of some areas lasting an average of 3 to 4 days.
“Then it took about three days to pull up forces, organize logistics, and identify the next points we would attack. We reconnoitered the situation, understood how many forces and means we needed to knock out the Russian troops, and then moved forward again for several days,” said the intelligence officer.
Russian offensive in Kharkiv region
On May 10, Russian troops attempted to break through the border of Ukraine from the Kharkiv region. The fighting spread to the area of the villages of Lyptsi, Hlyboke, Starytsia, and the city of Vovchansk.
In October, it was reported that Ukrainian intelligence officers conducted a successful operation in the Lyptsi area of the Kharkiv region. They managed to destroy a Russian regiment and clear 400 hectares of forest.
Then the DIU managed to capture Russia's battalion defense area, destroying three motorized rifle battalions, a Storm detachment, and a reconnaissance company of the 7th separate motorized rifle regiment of the 11th Army Corps of the Russian Armed Forces.
