Ukrainian intelligence provides details of Russian ship Sergei Kotov destruction
The Russian ship Sergei Kotov was attacked by Ukrainian Magura V5 maritime drones and sustained three injuries at once. Its cost is $65 million, according to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.
"On the night of March 4-5, 2024, a special unit of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine Group 13 attacked the patrol ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet Sergei Kotov," the statement says.
The mission was conducted in cooperation with the Ukrainian Navy and with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.
As a result of the strike by Ukrainian Magura V5 maritime drones, the Russian ship Project 22160 Sergei Kotov was damaged in the stern, starboard, and port sides.
"The Kotov was hit in the territorial waters of Ukraine, near the Kerch Strait. The sunken ship cost about $65 million," the DIU adds.
The DIU also shows footage of the destruction of the Russian ship Sergei Kotov.
Destruction of Russian ships
This is not the first Russian ship to be destroyed by Ukrainian Magura V5 maritime drones. For example, on the night of January 31 to February 1, Ukrainian intelligence officers destroyed the Ivanovets missile boat of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. According to the DIU, the Ivanovets boat was to some extent the pride of the Russian Navy. There were only three such ships. It could carry up to 40 Russian sailors.
In addition, on February 14, off the coast of the temporarily occupied Crimea, the DIU and Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed the Russian large amphibious assault ship Tsezar Kunikov. The DIU said that the Tsezar Kunikov was destroyed near Alupka off the coast of Crimea.
