Russian commanders are ordering their soldiers to kill Ukrainian troops who surrender, according to an intercepted communication released by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.

In the recording, a commander of the occupying forces operating in the Novopavlivka direction orders his subordinates to force Ukrainian soldiers to surrender, as they have a numerical advantage.

"Take one prisoner, and the rest — if they surrender — neutralize them (kill them – ed.)," the commander ordered.

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence noted that this is evidence of a systemic policy of encouraging war crimes carried out by the Russian military command.

Russians kill prisoners and even their own wounded

This is not the first time Russian commanders have issued brutal and illegal orders.

On July 19, the Defense Intelligence released an intercepted communication in which the commander of the 155th Separate Marine Brigade of Russia’s Pacific Fleet ordered the execution of wounded Russian soldiers.

In addition, another commander from the same brigade instructed his troops to "cut off the heads" of Ukrainian soldiers attempting to surrender.
