Russian forces have been ordered to kill civilians in the area of the village of Zelenyi Hai in the Donetsk region, according to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR).
Ukrainian intelligence released an intercepted conversation showing Russian soldiers preparing to clear a building with civilians inside. A Russian commander gives his subordinates explicit instructions to leave no one alive.
"Where there are civilians – kill them all. This big building," says a soldier in the recording.
HUR specialists have identified the unit that received this criminal order: a detachment of former prisoners called Shtorm, part of the Russian 57th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade.
Intelligence assessment
The agency emphasized that these actions are further proof of the deliberate targeting of Ukrainians in temporarily occupied territories.
"The interceptions once again confirm the systematic nature of war crimes committed by Russian occupiers against the civilian population of Ukraine," the HUR statement reads.
Intelligence officers added that all war criminals will be identified, and for every murder of Ukrainian citizens, they will face "just retribution."
