Ukrainian intelligence assesses Putin's success in dragging Belarus into war
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin failed to fully involve the Belarusian army in the war against Ukraine. However, Ukrainian military closely monitors this, reports the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Andrii Yusov, in a televised marathon.
He responded to the previous statements of the Main Intelligence Directorate regarding the Kremlin's plans to involve Belarus in the war against Ukraine.
"Putin uses the Belarusian factor to distract Ukrainian forces, reserves, to create some additional points of tension. However, in directly involving the Belarusian army in aggressive annexationist war against Ukraine, in ground operations, Putin did not succeed," the intelligence officer stated.
He added that the situation regarding Belarus's possible participation in the war is being monitored, tracked, and studied by Ukrainian military.
How Belarus is aiding Russia
Since the early days of the full-scale invasion, Belarus has been assisting Russia in the war against Ukraine, including hosting Russian equipment and troops on its territory. Additionally, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russians have concentrated nearly 22,000 troops near the northern border with Ukraine.
Belarus has also organized so-called "joint exercises" with Russia, ongoing since April 29, 2022.
Therefore, Ukrainian military continues to strengthen border security. Recently, defenders in the northern part of Ukraine conducted exercises, navigating obstacle courses and practicing assaults.
