Ukrainian Foreign Minister outlines expectations from NATO summit
Ukraine expects that the decision of the 75th anniversary NATO summit to be held this week in Washington will include two things, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
"Our expectations from the summit are that the set of decisions that will be made there will mean two things: a significant strengthening of our defense capabilities, especially in the field of air defense, and a significant step towards NATO membership," the Ukrainian Foreign Minister said.
Kuleba refused to disclose any other details about Ukraine's expectations from the summit.
NATO summit in Washington
This week, from July 9 to 11, the NATO summit will be held in Washington, DC. Ukraine will be one of the main issues on the agenda of the meeting of 32 leaders of member states. As previously announced, the summit may decide to strengthen Ukraine's air defense and discuss Ukraine's future membership in the Alliance.
According to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the summit in Washington is also expected to agree on a significant aid package for Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may also meet with US leader Joe Biden on the sidelines of the summit. At least the White House is preparing for such a meeting.
