Ukrainian Foreign Minister identifies key decisions that could change war outcome
It is possible to change the situation at the front, but it will be very difficult to do. It is necessary to make two key decisions that will be able to change the situation in the war with Russia, according to Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba.
"It is possible to change the situation, but it is very difficult. It has many components and many decisions that need to be made. Some of them depend on us, and we make these decisions. Some decisions depend on our partners, and they also, as a rule, understand that these decisions must be made," he says.
The Minister notes that one of the solutions is the destruction of Russian bombers on airfields and in the air.
"If I had to name two key decisions that must be made to reverse the trend, I would mention the destruction of Russian bombers on airfields and in the air," Kuleba says.
According to him, this is the real pain point of the ground forces of Ukraine.
"What we believe to be the main reason for the success of the Russians is simply the innumerable guided bombs dropped on our ground forces. They destroy and kill on a massive scale, and sometimes they simply flatten positions, leaving nothing for defense. So as soon as we succeed in eliminating the threat of aerial bombs, our ground positions will be strengthened, and it will be very difficult for Russia to move forward," the Minister says.
Kuleba says that the second solution to change the situation at the front is to increase the supply of ammunition.
"The second solution, which everyone has been talking about for months and years, has been working on for months and years, is to increase the supply of ammunition. If we protect our forces from Russian-guided bombs, if we have enough artillery and ammunition to destroy mobile Russian columns and units, which are moving, this will be a huge investment in changing trends on the battlefield," he emphasizes.
Situation at front
The Russian troops, throwing all their forces to seize the Donetsk region, encountered fierce resistance from the Ukrainian defenders. On July 2, the Russian invaders launched a large-scale offensive on Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, and Avdiivka, but suffered significant losses and were unable to make significant progress.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces not only repulsed Russia's attacks but also went on a counter-offensive in some places. The successes of the Ukrainian forces in the Vovchansk region were confirmed when they managed to push back the Russian occupiers several kilometers to the north. Local breakthroughs are also reported in the Kreminna area and southeast of Chasiv Yar.
