Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the G7 meeting in Canada, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Rubio on X.

Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine appreciates US President Donald Trump's peace efforts, as well as Washington's highly effective sanctions against Russia's energy sector.

"We need to continue to increase the cost of war for Putin and his regime, forcing Russia to end the war," the minister added.

He also briefed his American counterpart on the current situation on the battlefield, Ukraine's peace initiatives, and key priorities for strengthening the country's defense and energy resilience.

Rubio said that during the meeting, he and Sybiha discussed ways to reinforce Ukraine's defense and explore options to end the "bloody conflict."

"The United States remains steadfast in working with our partners to encourage Russia to pursue diplomacy and engage directly with Ukraine for a durable and lasting peace," he noted.

US sanctions

In October, the United States tightened sanctions against Russia as President Vladimir Putin continues to refuse to end his war in Ukraine.

The sanctions targeted two major Russian oil companies, Lukoil and Rosneft, aiming to cut the Kremlin's revenue from oil sales and pressure Putin to stop the war.

Yesterday, November 11, Bloomberg reported that following these sanctions, most Indian refineries stopped buying Russian oil.

As a result, Russia's oil exports have declined, falling to their lowest level in the last two months.
