Ukrainian forces recently made advances in the Donetsk region, specifically in the Pokrovsk direction, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

According to analysts, geolocated video footage published on July 18 indicates that Ukrainian Armed Forces recently advanced in the northern part of the village of Mykolaivka, northeast of Pokrovsk.

At the same time, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believes that Russian forces have made gains west of Novoekonomichne. However, American war researchers have not yet found visual confirmation of these Russian advances.

Situation in the Pokrovsk direction

Pokrovsk and the surrounding area in eastern Ukraine remain among the hottest frontlines. In recent days, the Ukrainian General Staff has repeatedly reported fierce fighting in this region.

ISW analysts believe that in the coming months, the Russian army will attempt to encircle Pokrovsk and flank the fortified Ukrainian Defense Forces’ line from the west in the Donetsk region.

Additionally, it is known that the Russian army is trying to break through Ukrainian defenses on the Pokrovsk direction, where intense battles continue.

Recently, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that a group of Russian saboteurs attempted to enter Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region.

Later, the Operational Tactical Group Donetsk stated that Ukrainian Defense Forces units in Pokrovsk are conducting active operations against enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRG). All enemy breakthrough attempts are being blocked.
