Heavy fighting near Pokrovsk as Russia pushes for tactical breakthrough

The Russian army is attempting to break through the defenses of Ukrainian forces in the Pokrovsk direction. Intense fighting is ongoing in the area, according to the operational-strategic group Khortytsia.
It is currently known that the enemy attempted to breach Ukrainian defenses near the following settlements:

At the same time, the invaders launched assaults on Ukrainian fortifications near Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Udachne, Muravka, Novopavlivka, Oleksiivka, Filiia, Novosergiivka, and Dachne.
"Heavy fighting continues. The enemy is trying to use its numerical advantage and advance further. The Defense Forces are taking measures to prevent the deterioration of the tactical situation," the operational-strategic group Khortytsia reported.
Situation in the Pokrovsk direction
It is worth noting that the city of Pokrovsk and the Pokrovsk direction in eastern Ukraine remain among the hottest spots on the front line. In recent days, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has repeatedly reported fierce battles in this area.
However, in early May, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that the Defense Forces had stabilized the situation in the Pokrovsk direction in Donetsk region.
"Pokrovsk direction is one of the most difficult sectors of the Russo-Ukrainian war," Syrskyi wrote.
According to him, the warriors of the Defense Forces managed to stabilize the situation in this operational zone in Donetsk region and, in some areas, even seize the tactical initiative.
At the same time, according to ISW, in the coming months, the Russian army will attempt to encircle Pokrovsk and bypass the fortified defensive line of Ukrainian forces in Donetsk region from the west.
