Ukrainian defenders are conducting active assault and counterattack operations in the Oleksandrivka direction. The main goal is to stop the Russian advance towards the Dnipropetrovsk region, according to Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The situation in this section of the front remains tense. However, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are not only holding their defenses, but are also taking active measures to prevent Russian troops from breaking through to the town of Pokrovske and the borders of the Dnipropetrovsk region.

"The situation there is quite difficult, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces are eliminating Russian troops and trying to prevent them from advancing," Voloshyn says.

According to him, the Ukrainian military continues active combat operations to contain the advance of the Russian army and stabilize the situation on this section of the front.

"We are continuing our counterattacks and assaults, so Russia is in a difficult situation there now, but it is not ceasing its activities," the spokesperson adds.

Oleksandrivka direction

In 2026, the Oleksandrivka direction, at the junction of the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, became one of the hottest spots on the front line due to Russia's active offensive.

According to the spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, Ukrainian defenders are not only holding their ground in this area, but are also conducting counterattacks and assaults, trying to completely clear the gray zone of Russian infantry groups and reduce their size as much as possible.

In a comment to RBC-Ukraine, Voloshyn also said that Russian propaganda resources publish distorted maps of combat operations, which differ significantly from the official information of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to Ukraine's General Staff, in the past 24 hours alone, on February 18, Russians attacked ten times in this direction.

Russian troops attempted to advance toward a number of settlements, including Ivanivka, Ternove, Danylivka, Vyshneve, Nove Zaporizhzhia, Sosnivka, and Zlahoda.
