Ukrainian forces hit over 54,000 targets with drones in December, says Commander-in-Chief
Ukrainian Defense Forces struck over 54,000 enemy targets with drones in December. Nearly half of this result was achieved by kamikaze drones, informs Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, on Facebook.
The Commander-in-Chief held a monthly meeting with the commanders of the unmanned systems and electronic warfare units to review the results of their work in December.
According to him, there is a continued increase in the use of unmanned systems on the battlefield. The Russians have increased their use of strike drones with fiber-optic control channels, which pose a threat to military vehicles during their movement. However, as Syrskyi noted, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have also started using FPV drones on fiber-optic networks.
The Commander-in-Chief also highlighted the growing effectiveness and survivability of drones. The leader in this area is the UAV regiment of Major Robert Brovdi.
"In total, in December, UAV operators of the Ukrainian Defense Forces hit more than 54,000 enemy targets. Nearly half of this result — 49% — was achieved by kamikaze drones," he stated.
The highest results were demonstrated by the unmanned systems units of the 46th Airborne, 57th Motorized Infantry, 28th Mechanized, 35th Marine Corps, and 3rd Assault Brigades.
Syrskyi also heard reports from the Commander of the UAV Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel Vadym Sukharevskyi, and representatives of other branches. The discussion focused on high-tech developments in the field of unmanned systems and electronic warfare, their use on the battlefield, and countermeasures against new enemy equipment.
"Special attention was paid to increasing the capabilities of the UAV units of the 155th Mechanized Brigade, as well as addressing issues that need to be resolved. I have given all necessary instructions," the Commander-in-Chief added.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces are also finalizing the concept for deploying a separate unmanned systems brigade.
Drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces
During the full-scale war, Ukraine has ramped up the production of domestically produced drones. This includes not only drones but also kamikaze drones, reconnaissance drones, maritime drones, and long-range UAVs.
The Ministry of Defense is also attracting foreign investments for drone production in Ukraine, notably under the Danish Initiative.
As reported by the government, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has tasked the country with producing 30,000 long-range drones this year. Ukrainian companies also plan to manufacture about 3,000 rockets.
