Ukrainian defenders destroyed Russian "shed" tanks near Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region during an enemy assault attempt, according to the Facebook page of the Skhid military grouping.
"Yesterday, the Russians once again attempted to break through our defensive lines near Ivanopillia in the Kostiantynivka direction, but the soldiers of the 28th Mechanized Brigade neutralized this attempt. This time, the enemy deployed their most heavily up-armored 'shed' tanks and about fifteen assault vehicles," the Skhid military grouping reported.
It was noted that even before reaching the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russian troops were met with concentrated fire from the 28th Mechanized Brigade’s artillery units. Then crews of the Spalakh Unmanned Systems Battalion, Kurt & Company, R.V. of the 3rd Battalion, pilots of the Libertas 2nd mechanized battalion, the 1st Battalion, as well as neighboring units, engaged the enemy.
Judging by the video, the heavily armored tanks had to be thoroughly "poked and prodded," but they were ultimately stopped and destroyed. Afterwards, Ukrainian troops took out the disoriented Russian assault vehicles one by one.
Situation around Kostiantynivka
According to ISW analysts, by the end of 2025, Russia will attempt to create conditions for operations in Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region. This is one of the fortified points of the so-called "fortification belt" in Donbas.
This belt is the main defensive line, consisting of four large cities and several towns and settlements stretching north to south along the H-20 Kostiantynivka–Sloviansk highway. Russia has been unsuccessfully trying to capture this belt since 2014.
By the end of September 2025, the Russian forces began attempts to penetrate Kostiantynivka. They are using a new tactic — trying to bypass Ukrainian defensive positions and infiltrate deep into the defense lines, accumulating personnel there before launching assaults.
This differs significantly from the failed frontal attack tactics Russia employed in 2024. However, even with the change in tactics, the Russian army’s successes remain minimal, and full capture of the "fortification belt" is unlikely before 2027–2028.
