Ukrainian forces destroyed a Russian Buk-M1 surface-to-air missile system during an operation on the front line. The entire unit was completely destroyed, informs the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

The 15th Separate Brigade of Artillery Reconnaissance "Black Forest" of the Ukrainian Armed Forces detected a modern Buk-M1 missile system operated by Russian forces. They quickly directed a strike against it.

As a result, the unit, valued at about $10 million, was completely destroyed.

Details about the Buk-M1

The Buk-M1 is a Soviet — and later Russian — mobile medium-range air defense system. It was designed to target aerial threats such as fighter jets, bombers, helicopters, as well as cruise missiles and drones.

The system includes a detection and guidance radar, along with missile launchers. It can destroy targets up to 15.5 miles (25 kilometers) away and at altitudes up to 13.7 miles (22 kilometers). The Buk-M1 is mobile and can quickly change positions, making it harder to target.

Destroying the Buk-M1 significantly weakens the enemy’s ability to control the airspace and protect their troops from air strikes.

Ukrainian forces' gains

Previously, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck a Russian Osa surface-to-air missile system in the Vuhledar direction. This weakened the enemy's ability to defend their positions against aerial attacks.

Also, in the Vovchansk direction, the "Skorpion" unit, working with the "Furia," successfully destroyed a drone launch site, two communication antennas, and a Murom-M surveillance system. The enemy had attempted to disguise the surveillance system as a birdhouse.
