Ukrainian Defense Forces advance in the Donetsk region, south of Dobropillia, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

"Geolocated footage published on August 20 indicates that Ukrainian forces recently advanced in northwestern Vodyanske (south of Dobropillya)," US analysts note.

According to them, Russian troops are also claiming to have advanced in this sector of the front, but there is currently no evidence to support their claims.

Despite this, it is known for certain that the Russian army has recently advanced southwest of Pokrovsk.

According to ISW data, over the past two days, Russians have continued offensive operations in the north of the Kharkiv region. However, they were unable to make headway—the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out new successful counterattacks.

"A source reporting on the Russian Western Grouping of Forces claimed that Russian forces attacked in the Borova and Kupyansk directions on August 20 as Ukrainian forces counterattacked north of Kupyansk, but ISW has not observed evidence that Russian forces advanced," analysts note.

The ISW points out that the Russian military is increasing the number of strikes in the Kupiansk sector. This may indicate that Russia is preparing for future ground attacks.

"Russian forces continue to use AI-altered footage to make false claims of advance," warn US analysts.

Recently, Ukrainian troops have made a breakthrough in the Kharkiv region.
