Recently, Ukrainian troops from the 123rd Territorial Defense Brigade raised the first Ukrainian flag on the temporarily occupied Kinburn Spit, according to the Telegram channel ZHAKH Z NEBES 123.

In particular, the soldiers shared footage showing the Ukrainian flag being raised.

“Pride — that’s what defines the unmanned systems unit of the 123rd Territorial Defense Brigade, which recently raised the first Ukrainian flag on the Kinburn Spit as a symbol of our inevitable victory over evil,” the statement reads.

What is the Kinburn Spit, and why is it important

The Kinburn Spit is a narrow peninsula located south of Ochakiv, between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. It holds strategic importance as it controls maritime access to the port of Mykolaiv and key shipping routes. In addition, the spit is known for its unique natural environment and is considered one of the largest sandy spits in Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Kinburn Spit has become a critical military front line, serving as a route for defense and supply lines. Control over this territory is vital for ensuring the security of Ukraine’s southern coastline.

Earlier, a Navy spokesperson for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Dmytro Pletenchuk, stated that the presence of Russian forces on the Kinburn Spit enables them to shell the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions.
