Ukrainian drones hit rare Russian radar worth more than $60 million

Ukrainian drones struck a Russian Kasta-2E2 radar station in the Zaporizhzhia region. A post-strike assessment confirmed the strike was successful, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to the military, the strike took place on September 1 near the settlement of Vyshneve in the Zaporizhzhia region. Ukrainian drones hit the radar's antenna directly, as well as the equipment compartment of the radar vehicle.
What is known about the Russian radar
The Russian mobile three-coordinate Kasta-2E2 (39N6) radar is designed to detect and track aerial targets at low and extremely low altitudes. It determines the coordinates of targets and transmits them to the air defense command posts.
The system can detect aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and drones, including those flying at extremely low altitudes. The station has a detection range of 5 to 150 kilometers and can track targets at altitudes of up to 6 kilometers.
The radar can detect a small drone flying at an altitude of 60 meters from a distance of 30 to 44 kilometers. The exact range depends on the height of the antenna mast, which can be raised to 50 meters.
Depending on its configuration, the estimated cost of such a radar station starts at $60 million.
Earlier, during the night, Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a Russian BK-16 landing craft in Sevastopol. The extent of the damage to the enemy vessel is currently being assessed.
In addition, on September 2, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed that Ukrainian forces had destroyed a MiG-29 aircraft and a Ka-27 helicopter belonging to the Russian army.
