In 2025, the 19-year-old athlete from Mykolaiv became a three-time European champion. In Antalya, Türkiye, he won gold on the platform, in synchronized diving, and in the mixed team event.
In addition, he earned a silver medal at the World Championships in Singapore and two medals at the World Cup Super Final: silver in the mixed event and bronze in synchronized diving.
These achievements placed him among the world's top five divers, making him a contender for this prestigious title.
Who the competitors are
Alongside the Ukrainian athlete, the following divers are competing for the award:
- Cassiel Rousseau (Australia)
- Osmar Olvera (Mexico)
- Yuan Cao (China)
- Wang Zongyuan (China)
For Sereda, this is his first time being shortlisted among the world's top five divers. However, in 2023, Oleksii was recognized as the best diver in Europe.
The winners will be determined based on a combination of fan voting and the decision of the World Aquatics Nomination Committee.
