Ukrainian Defense Minister talks to Pentagon chief for third time in 10 days
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin held a phone call. This marks their third conversation in the past 10 days, according to Umerov's X account and the Pentagon's website.
In the evening of August 23, Umerov stated that he had held a weekly call with Austin, during which they discussed the current situation on the battlefield, Ukraine's urgent needs, and plans for the near future.
"One of the key topics was the preparation for the next UDCG meeting in September. Expressed my gratitude to the United States for its constant and powerful support for Ukraine," he noted.
The Pentagon also confirmed the conversation between Austin and Umerov, who discussed "Ukraine's ongoing operations and priority capability needs."
Austin also congratulated Ukrainians on their preparations for Independence Day and reaffirmed the US's unwavering support in providing assistance to Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
It is worth noting that Austin and Umerov had also held phone calls on August 19 and August 14.
Additionally, it was announced that the 24th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format will take place on September 6.
US aid
Yesterday, US President Joe Biden announced a new aid package for Ukraine totaling $125 million. Biden spoke with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the eve of Independence Day.
The Pentagon revealed the contents of the package, which includes ammunition, rockets, Javelin anti-tank systems, and equipment for countering drones.
