Ukrainian Defense Minister holds first talks with new EU Defense Commissioner
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov held a phone call with the new EU Defense Commissioner, Andrius Kubilius, to discuss military aid to Ukraine, according to Kubilius' X.
"My first teleconference call with Ukrainian Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov. Good exchange on a way forward as regards the military assistance to Ukraine," Kubilius wrote.
According to him, Ukraine's ability to defend itself is important for Europe's readiness for the most extreme military situations.
It is worth noting that the position of EU Defense Commissioner is new. Previously, defense matters within the EU were handled by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs.
New EU Foreign Policy Head
The new High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the EU is now Kaja Kallas.
She recently noted that sending military personnel from European countries to Ukraine cannot be ruled out. This is possible in case of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
Earlier, the idea of sending military instructors to Ukraine was discussed in France. These instructors could train Ukrainian soldiers in Ukraine.
