Ukrainian defenders intercept nearly a dozen Shaheds during Russian nighttime attack
In the airspace over Kyiv and its outskirts, Ukrainian Air Defence Forces shot down approximately ten strike drones used by Russian forces in an attack during the night. No casualties were reported, according to Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.
It was noted that Russian kamikaze drones of the Shahed type approached the capital in several waves.
An official reported that Kyiv declared an air alert twice during the night, lasting about three hours.
“About a dozen Russian strike drones that threatened Kyiv were neutralized on the approaches and within the capital,” the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration informed.
He added that the Ukrainian Air Forces' command would later release precise data on the type and number of enemy drones.
“Preliminarily, the capital experienced no destruction, and no information about casualties has been received. Data from the operational report is being updated and clarified,” the official stated.
Nighttime attack on Kyiv
Earlier reports indicated that late on the evening of October 19, Russian forces launched strike drones of the Shahed type against Ukrainian territory for another attack, prompting air alerts in several regions.
Notably, an alert was also declared in the capital around 11:37 p.m. (Kyiv time), and there were reports of air defense operations and sounds of explosions.
Furthermore, after 2 a.m., an air alert was declared again in Kyiv due to the detection of an enemy kamikaze drone moving toward the city. At that time, active measures were being taken in Kyiv to repel the UAV attack, and explosions were heard there.
