Ukrainian counterintelligence destroys enemy Kasta radar system worth over $60 million
Military counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine in cooperation with the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed an enemy long-range radar 39N6 Kasta-2E2 in the Zaporizhzhia region, according to the Security Service of Ukraine Telegram channel.
The cost of the aforementioned radar starts at $60 million.
“In fact, this radar station was the “eyes” of the Russian air defense system that controlled our airspace. The enemy hid it in the rear, carefully disguised it and often redeployed it,” the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) adds.
The radar was tracked down thanks to counterintelligence officers from the 13th Main Directorate of the SSU, who hunt for such rare targets.
It is noted that since the beginning of the full-scale war, the SSU units have defeated a total of:
- 166 Russian air defense systems;
- 447 means of electronic warfare, as well as electronic and radio engineering intelligence.
39N6 Kasta-2E2
The 39N6 Kasta-2E2 is a Russian mobile radar designed for the air defense system. It is part of a modern airspace early warning and control system and is designed to detect, track and identify airborne targets such as aircraft, missiles and other aerial objects. Here are some of its features:
- The radar can detect targets at a distance of up to 300 km, depending on the type of target and operating conditions.
- Active Phased Array Antenna (AFAR), which allows for high detection and tracking accuracy.
- The station is mounted on a chassis that allows it to move across different territories;
- The radar integrates with other air defense components to coordinate detection.
RBC-Ukraine wrote that in July alone, the SSU destroyed 50 units of Russian equipment and showed a video of the operations.
