The possibility of relocating Ukrainian border checkpoints to Moldovan territory is indeed being considered, states Moldovan Interior Minister Daniela Misail-Nichitin, according to NewsMaker.

According to the minister, these measures will help reduce risks caused by the war in Ukraine and Russian attacks near Moldova's state border.

She explained that, due to regular Russian strikes on Ukraine's border areas, Moldova had withdrawn its border guards and customs officers from four checkpoints located on Ukrainian territory.

Chisinau is currently holding talks with Kyiv to ensure that Ukrainian border guards also operate on Moldovan territory and conduct joint border checks.

Misail-Nichitin emphasized that these are the minimum measures necessary to reduce risks associated with the war in Ukraine and attacks near the state border.

"As I have already said, there are currently two border checkpoints. This is based on agreements reached with the Ukrainian side. Of course, in the future, over the medium term, we will also assess other checkpoints, depending on the level of risk posed by incidents that have already occurred," Misail-Nichitin stressed.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the Ministry of Infrastructure planned to relocate checkpoints to neighboring countries due to attacks.

It was also recently reported that Poland had considered relocating border checks to its territory due to security risks in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, following a Russian missile strike on Ukraine near the Polish border, two checkpoints — Dorohusk and Zosin — had to be evacuated.
