Ukrainian boxer wins team's first silver medal at 2026 European Championships

European and world championship medalist Anna Okhota won a silver medal at the European Amateur Boxing Championships in Sofia. In the final of the women's 48 kg division, the Ukrainian lost to a Russian boxer.
How the final fight unfolded
In the continental championship final, Anna Okhota faced experienced Russian boxer Yulia Chumgalakova. The two-time European champion and 2025 world silver medalist ultimately secured the win.
The Ukrainian lost 0-5, with the judges' scorecards reading 27-30, 27-30, 27-30, 27-30 and 28-29 in favor of the Russian boxer.
As a result, Anna Okhota claimed the runner-up title and added a silver medal to the Ukrainian national team's tally.
Ukrainian success in Sofia
The World Boxing event in the Bulgarian capital runs from September 17 to 25. Over nine days of competition, athletes are competing for medals across 20 men's and women's weight classes.
Okhota's achievement was another success for the Ukrainian team at the tournament. Earlier, Iryna Lutsak and Pavlo Illiushа won bronze medals for Ukraine at the European Championships.
