Throughout the day, as of the evening, there have been 70 combat engagements on the front lines in Ukraine. The most intense fighting occurred in the Pokrovsk direction, accounting for over a third of the total battles, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The military command in its report updated the operational situation as of 22:00 on August 9.

Russian shelling

Russian forces launched two missile strikes and 51 airstrikes across Ukrainian territory, dropping 62 guided bombs.

Additionally, the Russian army deployed 458 kamikaze drones and carried out more than 3,300 attacks on Ukrainian Defense Forces positions and civilian areas.

Frontline situation

According to the General Staff, Ukrainian defenders continue to resolutely repel the enemy's attempts to advance deeper into our territory, inflicting effective fire damage on them.

In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy attacked the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defensive lines near Vovchansk twice. The battles are ongoing.

In the Kupiansk direction, there was one combat engagement near Tabaiivka.

In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions near Nevske, Makiivka, and the Serebrianske Forestry throughout the day. Ukrainian defenders repelled seven attacks, with three more still ongoing.

In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian forces halted nine enemy assaults in the areas of Bilohorivka, Verkhnokamianske, Spirne, and Vyiimka.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy launched six offensives near Ivanivske, Stupochky, and Chasiv Yar. Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled four of these attacks, with two still ongoing.

In the Toretsk direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian forces 12 times near Bila Hora, Dyliivka, Toretsk, and New York. Ten engagements have concluded, while two are still ongoing.

In the Pokrovsk direction, 25 battles have been fought since the start of the day near Vozdvyzhenka, Novooleksandrivka, Zelene Pole, Kalynove, Hrodivka, Zhelanne, and Yasnobrodivka.

It is reported that the Defense Forces have repelled 17 attacks, with eight more continuing.

"According to updated information, 234 enemy soldiers were neutralized in this direction today, with 84 of them eliminated permanently. Additionally, an MT-LB armored personnel carrier, two D-30 howitzers, four UAVs of various types, and six vehicles were destroyed," the report states.

Furthermore, the General Staff added that two tanks, four artillery systems, one 2B9 automatic mortar, one UAV, and four enemy vehicles were damaged.

In the Kurakhove direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions near Paraskoviivka and Kostyantynivka three times. As a result of these engagements, the enemy was defeated.

In the Vremivka direction, the Russian army launched an assault towards Vodiane. The attack is still ongoing, but the situation remains under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to the General Staff.

In the Orikhiv direction, an enemy assault on Ukrainian positions near Mala Tokmachka was unsuccessful.

The military command noted that the situation in other directions has not changed significantly.

The General Staff reported the day before that in the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders are taking measures to hold their designated positions.

On the morning of August 9, the military command informed that Russian forces were attempting to break through the Ukrainian defense lines, but Ukrainian soldiers were successfully repelling the enemy's attacks.
