Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff provides update on frontline situation

The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold their positions with determination. In some places, the Ukrainian military counterattack and destroy Russian troops, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Over the past day, 117 combat engagements took place. Russia fired 4094 times at the positions of the Ukrainian military, as well as at civilian settlements. Ukrainian Air Force and artillery hit 16 areas of concentration of Russian personnel, control points, and more.
"Ukrainian soldiers are resolutely holding their positions, sometimes counterattacking and destroying the Russian invaders," the General Staff writes.
As of May 22, 46 combat engagements have already been recorded.
Situation in directions
In the Kharkiv direction, Russia-backed militants have attempted to attack the area of Lyptsi twice since the beginning of the day.
In the Kupiansk direction, five firefights are currently taking place in the vicinity of Synkivka, Berestove, Nevske, and Makiivka. The situation is under control.
In the Lyman direction, Russia's attempts to advance near the village of Nevske were repelled.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled two enemy attacks in the vicinity of Vyymka. The situation is under control.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Russian troops have already made six attempts to improve the tactical situation. They attacked from Bakhmut, in the directions of Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, and Klishchiivka. Three of the engagements are ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the intensity has decreased. Three Russian attacks are currently underway from the area of Ocheretyne.
In the Kurakhove direction, three Russian attacks were repelled in the areas of Krasnohorivka and Novomykhailivka. Fighting is currently ongoing in the area of Kostiantynivka.
In the Vremivka direction, Ukrainian troops repelled two Russian attacks in the areas of Urozhaine and Staromaiorske.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Russians attacked Ukrainian positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River three times.
Russia's offensive
Recently, Russian troops have intensified combat actions in the Kharkiv direction. Russia failed to break through the Ukrainian defense line and therefore decided to extend the line of fighting towards the Donetsk region.
As President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted, Ukrainian soldiers are destroying the Russian occupiers in the Kharkiv region. He also added that the Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, and Kurakhove directions remain extremely difficult at the moment.
