In Chasiv Yar, Donetsk region, fighting continues in the city's urban area, except for today. Russia is amassing reserves in front of the town and the outskirts, said Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia operational and strategic group of troops.
“There is also fighting in the urban area, but it should be noted that during this particular day, since the morning of the previous day, no clashes were recorded in Chasiv Yar. But the Russians are now amassing reserves opposite the city and in the neighborhood for further assault operations,” Trehubov said.
Why Chasiv Yar is important for Russia
According to Trehubov, Chasiv Yar is a town on a hill overlooking the road towards the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, which makes it one of the most important destinations for Russians The settlement is a dominant height, which allows the Ukrainian Defense Forces to effectively hold it and inflict heavy losses on Russia.
“This week, the main fighting is taking place along the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal. We note that one of Russia's main targets in Chasiv Yar is a refractory materials plant. Russia is constantly trying to infiltrate there, and Ukrainian soldiers are now defeating them and repelling their attacks,” he added.
Situation at front
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 217 combat engagements took place at the frontline over the past day, December 25. In the Kramatorsk sector, Russians attacked 11 times in the vicinity of Stupochky, Chasiv Yar, and Bila Hora.
