Ukraine's defense forces in the Kherson direction hold a bridgehead on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River and are trying to expand it despite numerous Russian attacks and assaults, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The military command noted that in the area of responsibility of the Odesa Operational Strategic Group of Troops in the Kherson direction, Ukrainian soldiers "continue to expand the bridgehead."
"Despite significant losses, the enemy does not give up trying to drive our units out of their positions," the morning report says.
The General Staff says that over the past day, Russian invaders carried out 13 assault operations on the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. All of them were unsuccessful, the enemy received "a worthy rebuff and retreated."
"At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, depleting the enemy along the entire front line," the military adds.

Armed Forces of Ukraine have been conducting an operation on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region for almost two months. The defenders have managed to gain a foothold on several bridgeheads.
Despite the relatively small size of the footholds and continuous attacks by the Russians using all types of weapons, the enemy still cannot seize the initiative.
Earlier, the General Staff explained that the Ukrainian Armed Forces wanted to push the Russian occupiers away from the right bank of the Dnipro River. This will reduce the shelling of civilians.
Also, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin had to comment on the Ukrainian Armed Forces bridgehead and the inability of the Russian army to do anything about it at a press conference on December 14.
