Ukrainian Armed Forces down Russian drone at altitude of 3,620 meters
On September 7, in the Kharkiv region, soldiers of the Iron Brigade successfully shot down a high-altitude Russian-made drone in an aerial battle for the first time, according to the Operational and Tactical Group (OTG) Kharkiv.
"As soon as the Orlan-10 UAV was detected, the Voron group of the anti-aircraft missile and artillery division rushed to the designated area," the report states.
Upon detecting the Russian drone, the group quickly coordinated with border guards to determine the course and altitude of the target.
The military said that the hunt was challenging due to the drone's altitude of over three kilometers and its evasive maneuvers.
"However, thanks to the skill and coordinated actions of the Voron group, the reconnaissance drone was intercepted at an altitude of 3,620 meters and destroyed. The video captures the final moments of the attack," the report continues.
Updated. OTG Kharkiv has removed the news from its Telegram channel.
The Orlan drone has become one of the most recognized unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that Russia has heavily relied on in its war against Ukraine. This UAV plays a crucial role in reconnaissance, artillery fire correction, and even strikes.
The Orlan is equipped with powerful cameras that allow for precise reconnaissance over long distances. This capability enables Russian forces to identify Ukrainian positions, assess troop numbers, and evaluate their equipment.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed nearly 15,000 Russian drones.
