Ukrainian swimmer Yaroslav Denysenko won the gold medal in the 100-meter event at the 2024 Paralympics. Ukrainian swimmer Maksym Veraksa also secured the silver medal.

Denysenko and Veraksa competed in the 100-meter freestyle event in the S12 class, which includes athletes with visual impairments.

Denysenko finished with a time of 51.11 seconds, while Veraksa showed a result of 53.64 seconds.

This gold medal is Denysenko’s first Paralympic gold and his second medal at the 2024 Paralympics. He has already won bronze in the 100-meter backstroke.

With this win, Denysenko has brought Ukraine its 10th gold medal of the Paralympic Games. The country now has five golds each in swimming and athletics.

Background

On September 3, Ukrainian athletes won two gold medals at the Paralympics. The first-place finishers were runner Yuliia Shuliar and swimmer Yurii Shengur.

In total, Ukraine has already won 49 medals. It ranks eighth in the medal standings.
