Ukraine will destroy Russian missile launchers to reduce strikes on Ukrainian cities, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a meeting of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council.

The president said Ukraine's military knows it must destroy Russian missile launchers to reduce attacks on the country.

"Our military knows they must destroy the enemy's launchers to reduce strikes on Ukraine, its critical infrastructure, and civilians. They are working on this and will continue to do so," Zelenskyy said.

Overnight on August 5, Russia launched a massive combined missile and drone attack on Ukraine, firing 28 missiles and 115 attack drones. Despite the efforts of Ukraine's air defenses, none of the ballistic missiles were intercepted.

The main target of the attack was the Kyiv region. In the capital, damage was reported in the Holosiivskyi, Obolonskyi, Desnianskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi districts.

The strikes damaged residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. Fires also broke out at warehouse facilities. An ammonia leak that occurred in Kyiv's Holosiivskyi district was quickly contained.

Facilities belonging to Epicentr, ROZETKA, and Nova Poshta were also damaged.

Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, has argued that the only way to reduce the intensity of Russian attacks is by increasing strikes on Russian territory.
