What Russia used to attack Ukraine

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian forces launched the following overnight on August 5:

• 4 Zircon/Onyx anti-ship missiles;

• 24 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles;

• 115 Shahed attack drones (most of them jet-powered), as well as Gerbera, Italmas, and Parodiya decoy drones.

The main direction of the attack was the Kyiv region.

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups. However, none of the ballistic missiles were shot down.

As of 8:30 a.m., Ukraine's air defenses had shot down or suppressed 98 attack drones. At the same time, missile and 17 drone strikes were recorded at 26 locations, while debris from downed targets fell at six locations.

Kyiv: One killed, dozens injured, and an ammonia leak

According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, one person was killed, and 26 others were injured in the capital.

Damage was recorded in the Holosiivskyi, Obolonskyi, Desnianskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi districts.

Fires broke out in residential and non-residential buildings in the Obolonskyi district.

In the Holosiivskyi district, a system containing about 300 liters of ammonia was damaged. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the leak was minor and posed no threat to the public.

Warehouse facilities and non-residential buildings also caught fire in the capital. Search operations continued for people trapped under the rubble in the Holosiivskyi district.

Against the backdrop of the fires and the ammonia leak, elevated air pollution levels were recorded across all districts of Kyiv, according to data from the SaveEcoBot interactive map.

Kyiv region: 14 killed, highest death toll in the Brovary district

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, 14 people were killed, and 27 others were injured in the Kyiv region.

Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration Tymur Tkachenko said the highest number of casualties was recorded in the Brovary district, where nine people were killed. Four more people were killed in the Bucha district, and one person was killed in the Fastiv district.

Russian forces attacked the Brovary, Bucha, and Fastiv districts. Warehouse facilities, a logistics company, vehicles, and other sites were damaged.

It was also reported that nitrogen dioxide levels exceeded the permissible limit in Brovary following the overnight Russian attack. Mayor Ihor Sapozhko said laboratory tests of the air near Shevchenko Street found no exceedance of the maximum permissible concentration of combustion products.

Air aeration helped reduce the concentration of harmful substances.

At the same time, an excessive concentration of nitrogen dioxide was recorded near Heroiv Ukrainy Street and the Torhmash area — 0.26 mg/m³, compared with the permissible limit of 0.2 mg/m³. All other indicators remained within normal limits.

Fatalities found on railway platform

Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways, the country's state railway operator) reported that logistics and railway infrastructure in the Brovary district came under attack.

The bodies of those killed were found on the railway platform near the attacked logistics centers.

Train traffic and station operations were temporarily suspended during the attack. Passengers and railway staff were evacuated.

Later, Vitalii Bihun, head of the Brovary District State Administration, said that the highest number of casualties was recorded near the Kvitneve railway station.

"Last night, the train was slightly delayed, and people missed their last train. At the moment, eight people are known to have been killed. Three people are still unaccounted for, and about 12 people are in hospital," he said during the national television news marathon.

Russia destroys Epicentr's logistics and manufacturing facilities

One of the biggest consequences of the overnight attack was the destruction of the manufacturing and logistics infrastructure of Epicentr.

The company said that Russian missiles struck two key logistics complexes. In Kyiv, a logistics center on Viskozna Street was completely destroyed by fire.

In Kalynivka, one company employee was killed, and three others were injured.

A missile also struck the Epicentr Ceramic Corporation factory. As a result of the strike, the production kilns were completely destroyed, forcing the company to suspend operations. In addition, two large warehouse complexes were destroyed, and 20 employees' vehicles burned out.

Epicentr said it would temporarily relocate ceramic tile production to its facilities abroad. According to preliminary estimates, restoring the destroyed production facility will take at least one and a half to two years. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Rozetka, Fozzy Group, Nova Poshta, and others also hit

According to the head of the Brovary District State Administration, there are about five of the hardest-hit locations in the district, where logistics companies, including Fozzy Food, were attacked. The group's best-known retail chains are Silpo, Fora, and Thrash!.

Residential buildings were also damaged, while firefighters continue to extinguish a blaze at one of the country's largest freight logistics hubs. Photos show that the facility belongs to Rozetka.

Reports also emerged online about a strike on a Nova Poshta facility in Kyiv's Obolon district.

The company later confirmed that its sorting center in the capital had been destroyed during the overnight attack. The enemy used cluster munitions.

As a result of the attack, three people were killed: two drivers working for a partner transport company and one employee of a contractor. Another eight people were injured.

Nova Poshta said it would compensate customers for the full declared value of damaged shipments and contact each customer to provide details of the reimbursement.

Kharkiv region: More than 13,000 left without electricity

In Chuhuiv, in the Kharkiv region, a Russian drone struck an infrastructure facility.

As a result of the attack, more than 13,000 consumers were left without electricity.

Zelenskyy's reaction

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the massive Russian attack.

According to him, the main targets of the attack were warehouse facilities belonging to civilian businesses. Infrastructure and a railway station were also struck. The targeted sites had no connection to the war: a brewery, building materials warehouses, and civilian logistics facilities.

The president noted that ballistic missile interceptors were what could have saved the lives of those killed today.

"It is very important that our partners understand that delays in supplying them, or an unwillingness to provide anti-ballistic systems, lead directly to such horrific casualties and destruction. Partners who are not yet ready to play a more active role in supplying interceptors can help by implementing new sanctions. A significant share of Russia's ballistic missile production is still not under sanctions. Even now. New steps are needed – from the G7, the European Union, and everyone who supports the protection of life," he wrote.

Government preparing response after Russian strikes on businesses and logistics

According to Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, Russia is expanding its campaign of terror against Ukrainian businesses that serve millions of people. Businesses, manufacturing facilities, retail centers, and logistics complexes came under attack.

"These attacks have no military purpose — they are terrorism!" Koretskyi stressed.

He said the government will urgently hold meetings with business representatives and develop measures to help ensure the uninterrupted operation of logistics companies and retail businesses following the Russian attacks.

The Ministry of Economy has already received the relevant instructions.

Russia has increasingly targeted not only energy and military infrastructure, but also logistics centers, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities.

The targets include facilities that ensure the supply of goods and the operation of major retail chains. Previously, Russian strikes have hit facilities belonging to Nova Poshta (Ukraine's largest private postal and logistics operator), Rozetka, Epicentr, Novus, and other companies.

During previous attacks in the Dnipropetrovsk region, a warehouse belonging to the Biosphere Corporation was destroyed. It stored products under the Smile, PRO Service, Novita, Vortex, Eventa, LiKit, and Freken BOK brands. Russian forces have also struck the manufacturing facilities of the Lasunka ice cream company.
