Talks in Geneva
Today, February 18, the second day of talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia took place in Geneva.
In Geneva, the Russian delegation is headed by Putin's aide Vladimir Medinsky. It also includes the head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Igor Kostyukov, who represented Russia at negotiations in the United Arab Emirates. In total, the size of the Russian delegation, according to media reports, exceeds 15 people.
Ukraine is represented by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Budanov, and other members of the delegation.
The American side is represented by Jared Kushner, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and United States Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll.
Earlier, the Kremlin announced that the agenda in Geneva would be broader and would include the territorial issue, while Ukraine seeks progress on energy ceasefire and humanitarian agreements.
Previous rounds of negotiations on the settlement of the war between Russia and Ukraine took place in Abu Dhabi on January 23–24 and February 4–5.
During meetings, significant progress toward ending the war was not achieved. However, parties agreed on a prisoner exchange. It became first in five months.
According to Axios, yesterday's talks of a political group in Geneva reached a deadlock. The reason was the positions presented by Medinsky.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in turn, stated that negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in Geneva could already have reached the final stage, but the aggressor country is trying to delay them.
