The UN Security Council must immediately consider and adopt a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Ukraine. Such a step would help overcome the prolonged paralysis of this international institution caused by Russia’s actions, according to Ukrinform.
During a Security Council meeting, Volodymyr Pavlichenko, Ukraine’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, stated that the Ukrainian side insists on decisive action. Pavlichenko called on Security Council members to act immediately.
"The UN Security Council’s paralysis regarding Russia’s crimes must be ended by the international community, which still respects the rules-based international order. Therefore, we once again call on Security Council members to immediately submit a draft resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire," the diplomat said.
This document should serve as a litmus test revealing the true intentions of UN member states. According to the Deputy Permanent Representative, this step will clearly demonstrate support for the restoration of a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian representative also addressed the issue of weapons separately. Ukraine needs ongoing support, which is essential for its survival. Partners must continue to supply military equipment and ammunition.
"This is not an escalation, but the only effective strategy for restoring peace and saving lives," stated Ukraine’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN.
Currently, the UN Security Council is often deadlocked. The reason is Russia's veto power. Ukraine is trying to find ways to circumvent this obstacle.
