Ukraine expects more active involvement from China in efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine, according to remarks by Deputy Foreign Minister Yehven Perebyinis to Ukrinform.

At a reception at the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Deputy Foreign Minister Yehven Perebyinis expressed hope that China, as one of the world’s most influential powers, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, and a country Russia "cannot ignore", would play a more active role in achieving peace and use its influence to persuade the Kremlin to end hostilities.

"Russia will have no choice but to listen to China," he said.

According to Perebyinis, many in China understand the feelings of Ukrainians, who for more than a decade have been resisting Russia’s unlawful and brutal aggression and defending their freedom and independence with arms in hand.

He also thanked Beijing for its support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and independence, stressing that "this support was especially important for us at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale aggression."

Perebyinis added that Ukraine seeks to deepen relations with China, particularly by enhancing political dialogue at all levels.

Poland's position on Russia and China

Earlier, on September 29, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that China is the only country capable of forcing Russia into a ceasefire. He noted that Moscow’s growing dependence on Beijing gives China a "very powerful lever of influence," though it remains unclear whether Beijing intends to use it.
