The Ukrainian government plans to change the mobilization procedure in the country, aiming to maintain combat readiness after nearly two years of war with Russia, states the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov.

According to Danilov, the changes in mobilization will be announced this week. Ukraine plans to involve commercial recruiting companies. This move aims to conduct a more targeted conscription and fill the ranks of recruits.

Additionally, the use of such companies aims to assure conscripts that they will perform roles aligned with their skills rather than merely being sent to the front lines.

"Some people are scared, scared to die, scared to shoot, but it doesn’t mean they can’t be involved in other activities … Now we have a new minister with a new approach," Danilov said.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council reveals plans for cooperation with Ukraine's two largest recruiting companies. Together, they will work to identify individuals willing to assist the army but prefer not to serve on the front lines.

"The mobilisation will become more flexible, those specialities that are required will be announced, and people will be volunteering for a concrete position. For example, they need welders or mechanics and so on," he said.

The source within Ukraine's Ministry of Defense confirms contracts have been signed with the companies but does not specify which ones. It remains unclear how deeply involved these companies will be in recruiting efforts.

Meanwhile, Danilov acknowledges issues with mobilization in Ukraine but believes these problems are exaggerated by Russian propaganda.

"Russia is trying to heat up this issue, saying that we don’t have enough soldiers, that we have problems with mobilisation … There are always problems in life, let’s not overestimate it," he said.

Background

Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council, where mobilization was a key topic of discussion. Following this, the head of state instructed the Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov and the Chief of the Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhnyi to develop a comprehensive plan for mobilization in Ukraine.
