Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Ukraine is preparing to launch joint customs and border control at its borders with the European Union.

According to Shmyhal, a pilot project is planned to launch on the Ukraine-Poland border in 2025.

"The third area of our work is the launch of joint customs and border control at the EU borders. We expect the pilot project on the Ukrainian-Polish border to begin this year," the Prime Minister stated.

Shmyhal clarified that negotiations with the European Commission on the agreement are ongoing. Joint border control is expected to significantly reduce wait times for individuals and businesses, bringing Ukraine even closer to the EU.

"eQueue" system

In May 2023, Ukraine introduced an online booking system for border crossings called "eCherha" (eQueue). This system was implemented at dozens of checkpoints in EU countries and Moldova.

The free service allows users to pre-register for border crossings from anywhere, avoiding the need to queue at the checkpoint itself. Notifications about queue status are sent via electronic accounts, SMS, and phone calls.

Drivers can register online and track their queue status on the system’s website in real-time.

Additionally, Ukraine has announced plans to expand its border infrastructure and logistics by 2030 significantly. This includes renovating 29 existing border checkpoints and constructing 17 new ones.
