Ukraine thanks US Senate for approving 'hell sanctions' against Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha have thanked the US Senate for supporting the bill on new sanctions against Russia and Iran. The document must now go through the US House of Representatives, after which it can be sent to President Trump for signature, according to statements from the President of Ukraine and the country's top diplomat.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the decision of the American senators and thanked them for the bipartisan support for Ukraine in the US. According to him, strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia is one of the key tools for compelling Moscow to end the war.
"Ukraine appreciates ALL the support the United States is providing to Ukraine – from both parties and the entire American people," Zelenskyy stated.
He also emphasized that the Senate's decision is particularly important against the backdrop of Russian attacks and the use of ballistic missiles against Ukraine.
"When Putin is making his final bet on ballistic missiles to drag out the war, and when we are searching every nook and cranny so hard for Patriot missiles to protect ourselves, every signal in support of defending lives and bringing the war to an end as soon as possible is extremely important," the president noted.
Zelenskyy added that real US pressure on Russia would help bring diplomatic resolution closer.
"Diplomacy comes closer with every step of pressure on the aggressor," he stated.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha also welcomed the Senate's decision. He thanked the US senators for their bipartisan support and described the bill as an important step toward strengthening the sanctions regime against Russia.
"This landmark legislation is a powerful demonstration of America’s global leadership," Sybiha wrote.
Context
On July 28, the US Senate backed a bill to tighten sanctions against Russia and Iran. One of its co-sponsors was the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.
During his visit to the US, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with more than 60 US senators. The head of state emphasized that the new sanctions bill is not only a tool for increasing pressure on the Kremlin, but also an important signal to European partners.
