As a result of a successful special operation by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, explosions were heard in Russia at the Saratov and Novokuybyshevsk oil refineries, as well as at the Urals oil production station, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On the night of September 20, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, under the command of the General Staff, struck the Saratov oil refinery. Explosions and a large-scale fire were recorded at the site. The final results are being clarified.

This plant accounts for about 2.54% of the total oil refining volume in Russia, more than 7 million tons of oil per year.

Ukrainian units also attacked the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery in the Samara region. Explosions and fires have been reported on the refinery's territory. Details are being clarified.

This facility processes more than 8.8 million tons of oil per year.

A fire attack was also carried out on a key transport infrastructure facility, the Samara linear production and dispatch station (LPDS). The results of the attack are currently being clarified.

This is a production station where high- and low-sulfur oil from different fields is mixed to form Urals export oil (up to 50% of Russia's total exports).

All the targeted facilities were involved in supplying the Russian Armed Forces with fuel.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces are systematically implementing measures to disrupt logistics and reduce the aggressor's military and economic potential in the oil refining sector.

Attacks on the Novokuybyshevsk refinery

The Novokuybyshevsk refinery is the most powerful oil refining enterprise among the plants of the Samara Group of Rosneft, with a design capacity of over 8.8 million tons of oil per year.

The plant is one of the main producers of premium-grade RT jet fuel for subsonic and some supersonic aircraft such as the Su-27 and Tu-22M3.

The last time drones struck this refinery was on the night of March 10. Locals reported a series of explosions.

Also in March 2024, there was a drone strike on the Novokuybyshevsk refinery in the Samara region. Due to the attack, work at the facility was halted because one of the installations was damaged.
