Oil refinery caught fire in Russia, suspicion of drone attack reported
On the night of March 23, in Novokuybyshevsk, Samara region of Russia, residents reported explosions at the local oil refinery, including drone attacks and two flyovers, according to Russian media.
The Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery is located in the Samara region and is part of the Rosneft oil company group.
The refinery produces a variety of products, including fuel for jet engines, oils for missiles, and passenger cars. Approximately 30 types of products from the plant are shipped to many regions of Russia and neighboring countries.
The plant is one of the main producers and suppliers of high-grade RT jet fuel in Russia, which is the most in demand. The designed capacity of the enterprise is 8.3 million tons of oil.

There have been 15 attacks on Russian refineries during 2024. The total installed capacity of the attacked plants is 178 million tons per year, but significant damage was only inflicted on eight refineries with a combined installed capacity of 83 million tons per year.
Additionally, drones have disrupted 10-15% of Russia's oil refining capacity. According to Gunvor CEO Torbjorn Tornqvist, approximately 600,000 barrels were taken out of operation.
