Ukraine used long-range ATACMS missiles to strike military targets on Russian territory, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"The Armed Forces of Ukraine have successfully employed ATACMS tactical missile systems to carry out a precision strike against military targets on the territory of Russia," the General Staff statement reads.
Which specific targets were hit by Ukrainian defenders is not yet known.
Ukraine’s military command emphasized that this strike is a landmark event, highlighting the country’s commitment to its sovereignty.
The General Staff added that Ukrainians remain resilient and demonstrate determination despite the ongoing challenges of Russian offensives.
"The use of long-range strike capabilities, including systems such as ATACMS, will continue," the military noted.
Russian complaints
Earlier, Russian Telegram channels reported that Voronezh had allegedly been attacked with ballistic missiles.
Videos showing explosions and smoke in the sky were shared online.
Russians claimed the supposed destruction of ATACMS missiles with cluster warheads.
Rumors of a US ban
Back in August, the Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that the US authorities were allegedly blocking Ukraine from using American long-range missiles to strike Russian territory.
Specifically, since late spring, the Pentagon "had not allowed Ukraine to use ATACMS" for attacks on Russian territory.
On September 29, however, US Special Presidential Envoy Keith Kellogg stated that President Donald Trump had authorized Ukraine to carry out long-range strikes on Russian territory.
Still, according to him, the Pentagon sometimes did not grant Ukraine the authority to conduct such attacks.
