Ukraine is stepping up efforts to make effective use of electronic warfare (EW) to defend against drones. Producing long-range drones for strikes against Russia also remains a priority, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said following a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.

EW to protect infrastructure

The head of state said officials received detailed briefings on EW system capabilities and how to use them to protect infrastructure.

"This very component of our defense that allows us to neutralize a significant share of Russian 'shaheds'," the president noted.

Zelenskyy also identified additional tasks for the Armed Forces and manufacturers in this area. He said the most effective approaches will be scaled up.

New sanctions against Russia

The Defense Intelligence briefed attendees on the Russian military's technological priorities for 2026–2027.

The meeting also addressed the supply of critical components and equipment to Russia for weapons production.

"Based on this, we will prepare new sanctions packages: Defense Intelligence will submit its proposals to the Cabinet of Ministers and the National Security and Defense Council. We are also working to synchronize our sanctions accross partners' jurisdictions," Zelenskyy said.

Ukraine's long-range drones

The meeting also identified the main tasks for providing Ukrainian forces with long-range drones for next year.

"The key criterion is that we must be able to respond to Russian strikes in kind," the president said.

As previously reported, Zelenskyy instructed the military and government officials to strengthen protection for key facilities and set defensive lines ahead of Russian attacks.

In addition, Ukraine is increasing its level of protection against Russian drones and missiles every day. President Zelenskyy said the parties have reached agreements on new defense contracts.
