Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council has decided to forcibly confiscate 1,592 Russian railcars for the benefit of the state, according to the website of Ukraine's Parliament – Verkhovna Rada, which is legally required to approve the decision.

The decision to confiscate the assets was made "to mobilize the state's financial resources" and "to deny Russia access to economic assets that could potentially be used to support the ongoing war effort."

The confiscation was initiated by the state-owned company Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways).

The railcars set to be confiscated are owned by several Russian companies, including VEB LEASING OJSC, VEB.RF, State Transport Leasing Company (GTLK), Nord, Obldorsnab, Organic Synthesis, Gazpromtrans, Financebusinessgroup, and TransContainer.

Separately, earlier today in Russia's Bryansk region, a bridge collapsed onto a passenger train traveling from Moscow to Klimovo, causing the train to derail.

According to the latest reports, more than 40 people were injured and seven were killed.
